Update: March 2018:
Bradstone no longer make Octagons and specialist circles, and Wickes don’t offer any either. We’re trying to source others, but, until then, this page should be considered historic, for if you wish to find these designs on eBay or at local builder’s merchants.
An Octagon makes a striking addition to a patio or a standalone feature for a garden. We’ve sourced one Octagon pack from Bradstone, and several more from Wickes. We’ve also included the Octagons that are no longer available from Bradstone at the bottom of the page for if you’d like to search builder’s yards for them! 🙂
Bradstone Octagon Paving Kit- Natural Sandstone – Fossil Buff
Slightly different from the typical paving circle designs, the Bradstone Natural Sandstone Fossil Buff Octagon Kit is an interesting departure from conventional arrangements, with a more rigid structure that may appeal to certain people instead of the traditional curves of circle-based kits.
Of course, the finely worked and coloured stones used mean that you will receive the same high quality of appearance and durability as with other products from this manufacturer, and be the recipient of equal praise from your impressed neighbours and friends.
After reducing their range, this is the only Octagon kit available from Bradstone. Previously they offered octagon kits in many different types of stone. I’ve included a list at the bottom of the page, just in case you want to try hunting for them, online or offline. 🙂
The Octagon feature consists of 33 separate stones, is 2.5 metres along each side and covers a squared off area of 6.25 metres. The natural sandstone octagon kit is only available in this fossil buff finish.
Octagon Kits From Wickes
Wickes offers a range of Octagon kits, which we think are actually made and supplied by Marshalls. The Wickes Octagons, or “Octant Kits” as they call them, are made from textured and coloured concrete stones. The paving stones have multiple different face profiles taken from hand-crafted moulds cast from genine riven sandstone to mimic the look of natural stone. The final dimensions of the Octagon are 2.39 metres in length and width and 35mm in depth. The kit contains a centre stone, 16 corner kites and eight infils.
There are two versions of their “Buxton” range, the “Buff” finish and the “Charcoal” finish…
As well as two from their “Heritage” range, one in “Weathered Yorkstone”, and one in “Yorkstone”…
Finally, there’s a striking “Wentworth” octagon in “Calder Brown” finish…
Bradstone and Stoneflair Octagon Paving Kits no longer available.
Just in case you want to look for them on eBay or a builder’s merchant (or they bring them back!), here are the old octagon kits that were produced under the Bradstone and Stoneflair names…
Stoneflair, Purestone Sandstone Antique Paving Fieldmoor Octagon Kit
The circular paving pattern is eternally popular among garden designers both amateur and professional, but for those who wish to go against the grain, the Stoneflair Purestone Sandstone Antique Fieldmoor Octagon Kit is a fine choice.
Although the octagon shape does not deviate substantially from the general symmetry of circular paving, the sharper edges and heavier lines give your patio a more robust, contemporary feel. In addition, the stones themselves are quarried and selected based on their toughness against wear and tear as well as their natural beauty. This translates into a paving design that should last you quite a number of years, serving you well as a focus of tranquility and relaxation.
Stoneflair Purestone Sandstone Antique Glendale Octagon Kit
Shown above are the actual paving stones (left), and the octagon kit pattern (right) so that you can see the beauty of the stones and also the pattern that the kit will create in your garden or as part of your patio.
An interesting departure from the conventional circle paving design, the Stoneflair Purestone Sandstone Antique Glendale Octagon Kit features a stone grouping that fits together much like the lattice pattern of a spider web – one of the lovelier arrangements that occurs in nature.
This attractive layout is complemented nicely by the fine colours and finishing effects on the slabs themselves, which evoke the old stone found in structures that have been standing for centuries. The pieces can be used in conjunction with existing foliage for a rustic overgrown plant effect, or laid out as instructed to provide a foundation for all manner of outdoor activities, from picnics to barbeques.
Yorkvale Antique Gold Octagon Kit
What could possibly be better than a luxurious gold-toned paving arrangement in the middle of your garden, so attractive that it looks like the work of professionals? For some, the answer is the same stones cut in an octagonal formation, which highlights the natural traits of the expertly cut stone, due to the sharper edges and emphasis on the lines. The Yorkvale Antique Gold Octagon Kit allows you to replicate this effect without having to spend so much, and with none of the hassle and squandering of time associated with ordinary stonework. This kit proves that you don’t need to spend a lot of money or effort to come up with a patio masterpiece.
The Octagon feature comes with an integral squaring off kit forming a 2.7m square. The finished octagon area is 7.29 square metres.
Bradstone’s Milldale Antique Grey Octagon Kit
This kit provides a natural stone appearance althought it’s actually a man-made stone surface. The stones themselves have a shallow, riven profile which means less pooling of water when it rains, the stones dry out faster, a more even surface for your patio furniture and less weed and alage growth.
This Bradstone product is made with subtle variations which look like natural stone. In fact, it’s difficult to tell the difference!
Whether you use the Octagonal Milldale paving as a standalone feature or a central part of a patio, you’re sure to be overjoyed at how the paving impresses you and your guests!
Bradstone’s Milldale Golden Sand Octagon Kit
This is a man-made stone product which gives a great imitation of natural stone. The paving stones themselves have a low, riven profile so there’s less pooling of water when it rains and the stones dry out faster. The more even surface also keeps your patio furniture more stable and reduces weed and algae growth.
This Bradstone product is made with subtle variations which look like natural stone. In fact, it’s difficult to tell the difference between the imitation and the natural… apart from how much money you save, of course!
Bradstone’s Milldale Weathered Cotswold Octagon Kit
This Octagon kit provides a natural stone appearance although it’s actually a man-made stone surface. The stones themselves have a very low profile which means less pooling of water when it’s raining and the stones dry out faster when it’s stopped raining! The low profile also provides a more even surface for your patio furniture and reduces weed and alage growth.
This Bradstone product is made with subtle variations which copy the look of natural stone. In fact, it’s very difficult to tell the difference!
Bradstone’s Milldale Antique Chestnut Octagon Kit
This kit provides a natural stone appearance despite it actually being a man-made stone surface. The stones themselves have a shallow, riven profile which means less pooling of water when it rains, the stones dry out faster, a more even surface for your patio furniture and reduced weed and algae growth.
This Bradstone product is made with subtle variations which look like natural stone. In fact, it’s difficult to tell the difference! The Octagon kit consists of 36 stones, 9 for each quarter and the finished octagon is approximately 2.25 metres squared.
